Youth Department
Welcome to the youth department of Zuyd Cycling Team!
From the age of 7, you can start cycling with the youth section of Zuyd Cycling Team. Until you are 14.
you belong to the youth category. After that, you can move on to the Novices.
Interested in cycling with the Zuyd Cycling Team?
Great! We look forward to seeing you at one of our training sessions. Are you 7 years or older and do you have a helmet, gloves, and a road bike or mountain bike? Then you are all set to get acquainted with cycling.
Season
The cycling season runs from March until the end of September. During this period, we train twice a week and you can participate in races.
The winter period starts in October, during which you can go cyclocross.
Introductory lessons
At several times during the year, Zuyd Cycling Team organizes a series of four introductory lessons for children who want to discover road cycling.
During these lessons, both children and parents learn what the sport entails. This way, everyone can start well-prepared. Of course, there is also plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
You need this:
Road bike, mountain bike or sports bike
Helmet (mandatory)
Gloves
Sports shoes
Introductory lessons: free
Period: March through October
Location: various training locations
Try first, then buy
Is your child enthusiastic? Then we understand that you don't want to buy a road bike right away.
Feel free to start with a mountain bike or borrow a bike within the club.
Clothing and equipment
Are you going to start road cycling? Then keep the following in mind:
An approved helmet is mandatory.
Gloves are mandatory and protect in the event of a fall.
In the beginning, you can just use sports shoes.
Later, you can switch to clipless pedals and cycling shoes.
(Sports) glasses protect your eyes from sun, rain, and dirt.
You wear cycling shorts without underwear.
Safety comes first
At Zuyd Cycling Team, safety always comes first. Our trainers ensure a safe and educational environment. Check your bike thoroughly before every training session, or have a specialist do it. This way, you avoid unnecessary risks and can hit the road with confidence.
